Radium Week One

Today is officially one week since I started my work placement here in Radium.

For those thinking I leave too often, at least I'm staying in the same country this time!

Although Radium is only a three hour drive from Calgary, there has been more culture shock then I expected as there are less than 800 people living in Radium. Coming from a city of over 1.2 million, this is a huge change for me.

Of course I've heard about small towns on TV and from some friends, but it is different to really experience it. The biggest difference I notice is that very few places are open after 5p.m. Being a night person, this has been an adjustment. It also forces me to plan accordingly as my work day is from 9-5, I have to make sure I get everything I need in my lunch break or days off.

Speaking of work, the first week has been amazing. Everyone I work with makes me feel welcomed. I have learned so much within the first week, I look forward to everything that the next four months of work has in store for me.

I even got to go Ziplining on my second day of work, that was a thrill. The course had seven lines through the Columbia Valley, complete with gorgeous mountain views.

I have not had time to go to the Hot Springs just yet, but I will get there.

The town people are so friendly, and so are the Bighorn Sheep. We even have a town peacock, I call him Joe.

I've explored the town briefly by foot, I am hoping to get a bike and explore some more.

I'm living in the staff accommodation, which is fairly nice. The two roommates I have now are lovely and I'm excited to get to know the other two to come.
